Corfu

About

Corfu is a destination like no other, offering visitors a glimpse into the island’s rich and diverse past. Despite the passing of time, the island remains a place where one can truly feel the spirit of a bygone era. From its stunning natural landscape and crystal clear waters, to its warm weather and cultural heritage, it’s no wonder that Corfu is one of the most sought-after Mediterranean destinations.

What sets Corfu apart from the rest of Greece is its unique history. Unlike other parts of Greece, Corfu was never under Ottoman rule. Instead, the island has been shaped by the successive domination of the Venetians, French and British. This has led to the island becoming a part of the Western world, rather than the Levantine world. The island’s culture has been greatly influenced by these foreign influences, as evidenced by the fact that the first Greek University (the Ionian Academy), the first Philharmonic Orchestra and the first School of Fine Arts were all founded here.
